History of Summerfield Farms

Summerfield Farms, LLC. began in 2007 but our story begins with Joseph and Rose Summers. After earning his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Iowa Joseph Summers eventually moved west to Hanford, CA. In Hanford he founded Summers Engineering, where he would become a pioneer in California water engineering issues. He also bought 40 acres of property to build a home for his family.

This property included mature Ashley walnut trees. His plan was to grow corn but after his first harvest season he decided walnuts would do. However he was in need of a Foreman to manage the property. in 1985 Paul Stanfield joined the operation as Foreman, and eventually Farm Manager. Through the years he acquired more property, developed and planted walnuts, built a walnut huller and dryer, and bought and upgraded all the necessary production equipment.

On October 24, 2006, Joseph passed away in his home. He left roughly half of the farm and all the equipment to the Stanfield Family. In honor of the blessing we have received from Mr. Summers we chose the name Summerfield Farms to forever remember Joseph Summers. Today we carry on his commitment to producing the highest quality walnut crop, doing things right the first time around, and we believe he would be excited to see all that Summerfield Farms has achieved today.

Today Summerfield Farms is owned and operated by the Stanfield Family.
